Pilates encompasses over 500 specific exercises, designed for the floor or mat (with no apparatus, just the body and gravity!) or the pilates apparatus (which include the Reformer, the Chair, the Cadillac, the Tower, the Barrels and several other small apparatus).

Learning the specific sequencing of classical pilates is similar to learning the poses of yoga or the choreography of ballet. Once memorized and layered on the body over time, the exercises become a "moving meditation" where your body becomes strong and flexible. It can take years to accomplish all the exercises in pilates for the truly competitive, but the beauty of pilates is that the simplest, first beginner exercises can be a complete workout forever!
